Nancy Joyce Reznichek, 85
Nancy Joyce Reznichek, age 85, died Sunday, January 8, 2016 at her home.
Nancy was born on January 4, 1932 in Antigo to the late Anton and Marie (Maher) Reznichek.
She was a graduate of Antigo High School class of 1950. She went on to attend UW-Madison for 2 years and then returned to Antigo to teach and attend Langlade County Teacher’s College. She also attended UW-Stevens Point to complete her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Her early teaching began at Rosedale School and from there she taught at Gillis School in Star Neva and Strassburg School, southeast of Antigo. From then until her retirement she taught grade 4 at East Elementary in Antigo. Nancy taught for a total of 47 years in Antigo and the surrounding area. Nancy will be remembered for her avid love of learning and dedication to her family and students throughout her life.
Nancy was an active member of Faith United Church of Christ and a member of the church choir from the age of 16 until the time of her death. She was also an active member of Women of Faith and the Thursday Bible study group. Nancy was a member and longtime treasurer of the Langlade County Retired Teachers Association and a member of the Antigo Music Association. She was a longtime community volunteer, delivering with Meals on Wheels and helping at the Langlade County Humane Society.
Genealogy was a favorite pastime of Nancy’s. She belonged to both the local and state genealogy societies. She enjoyed attending Czech Heritage Days in Phillips. Nancy was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Nancy was also interested in studying and watching birds and animals native to Wisconsin, traveling throughout the area, gardening, reading, biographies, and singing in several different groups in northern Wisconsin.
Survivors include her sister Janet Reznichek of Antigo, her brother John Reznichek of Colorado, brother-in-law, Tom Thorsen of Brooklyn Park, MN, nieces and nephews, Amy (Tom) Ruhl of Coon Rapids, MN, Lynn Thorsen, Beth (Kyle) Ruud of Maple Grove, MN, John (Robyn) Thorsen of Coon Rapids, MN Debbie Terhark of Chandler, AZ, Jenny (Mike) Orr of Longmont, CO, and Dan Reznichek of AZ, and their families.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters, Roberta Thorsen and MaryJo Reznichek.
Nancy will be remembered for her love and learning and dedication to her family throughout her life.
A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at Faith United Church of Christ. Pastor Jan Jones will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home and from 10:00 AM until the service on Friday at the church. Interment will be in Neva Cemetery.
