For the Antigo Times

Antigo Visual Arts (AVA) is looking for area artists to participate in its 2017 “Starved for Spring” show. The show will hang in the AVA Gallery at the Langlade County Historical Museum, 404 Superior St. in Antigo from April 13 – June 22. It will be AVA’s second ever judged show.

“The show is open to all area artists 15 and over,” AVA Gallery Director Karen Aulik-Now said. “And, like last year, awards will be given for first, second and third places, as well as best of show. Honorable mentions may also be awarded at the discretion of the show judge.”

Cindy Martin has been selected to judge the show. Ms. Martin is an artist and art instructor at the Antigo Middle School. She has bachelor’s degrees in Art Education & Interior Design from UW-Stevens Point, and a master’s degree in education from Marian College. In addition to her AVA membership, she is on the LA Arts Board, and is a member of both the Transparent Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society.

Each artist may enter up to three pieces of original art. The work can be: paintings, photography, mixed media, sculpture, textiles, woodworking, wood carving, or monoprints. The show has no theme, so just about any piece of art can be entered. All entries, however, must be original works of art, entirely the work of the entrant. There is a $10 entry fee for the first piece and a $5 fee for each additional piece. Show Entry Forms are currently available in the Gallery at the Museum. They can also be downloaded here: http://www.antigovisualarts.org/ava-pdf.html. Entry forms must be completed by Wednesday March 22.

The AVA Artist Guild will be hosting a Mothers Day reception on Sunday, May 14 from 1 – 4 pm at the Museum. The public is invited. Bring mom to the Gallery following Mothers Day brunch – there is no charge.
