Morris Frederick Wegner, 91

Morris Frederick Wegner, age 91, died Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Evergreen Terrace.
Morris was born on July 16, 1925 in Antigo to the late William Henry and Laura Bertha (Schwantes) Wegner.
On August 22, 1959 he was united in marriage to Virginia Marie Perske at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wausau. Virginia preceded him in death on January 7, 2014.
Morris was a graduate of Antigo High School Class of 1943.
He assumed operation of the family dairy farm in the Town of Peck, which became a Century Farm in 2007. He continued to grow cash crops after his retirement from dairy farming in 1988. His love of the land and work ethic were greatly admired. He was member of National Farmers Organization.
He was active in civic affairs and was a proponent of education. He served on the Town of Peck town board, served as president of the River Grove Elementary PTO and was a volunteer firefighter with the Town of Peck Fire Department.
Morris was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Deerbrook, where he was the church organist more than fifty years, playing past his 90th birthday, and had served on the church council.
He had a passion for music. Following high school he was a member of the Tune Twisters, playing at various events and dances. In later years he shared his musical talent playing piano at Eastview Medical and Rehabilitation Center and Evergreen Terrace for over twenty years.
Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Wegner of Wausau, 2 sons, Mark (Gail) Wegner of Watertown and John (Barbara) Wegner of Appleton, 6 grandchildren, Aaron, Mary, Kelly, Samuel, Alex and Ross Wegner, a sister-in-law, Ernestine Wegner of Waukesha, nieces, Patsy Nichol and Rhonda Hartig and their families; as well as the family of Carmine Ruva.
In addition to his wife and parents, Morris was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Zirkel, 2 brothers, Amos and Ogden Wegner and a niece Carmine Ruva.
A visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Deerbrook with visitation from 10:00 AM until the service at the church. Reverend Jerome Hahn will officiate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
A memorial will be established in Morris’s name.
