Governor Walker approves funding for improvement projects at the Crandon/Steve Conway Municipal Airport

Governor Scott Walker has approved $458,750 in additional funding for the Crandon/Steve Conway Airport to construct a hangar and relocate the airport’s wind cone.

Matt Malicki, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), says construction of the 6-bay T-hangar will allow the airport to rent or lease covered hangar space to future airport tenants and will help increase the number of aircraft based at the airport. The wind cone relocation project will improve safety by moving the wind cone out of the airport’s runway approach. Construction will take place in 2017.

Funding Breakdown

  • State = $350
  • City of Crandon = $44,626
  • Federal Aviation Administration = $413,774

Airport improvement projects are administered through the WisDOT Bureau of Aeronautics. Crandon/Steve Conway Municipal Airport is one of 97 facilities included in the Wisconsin State Airport System Plan, which makes it eligible for airport development funding.
