For the Antigo Times

A new event is arriving in Antigo later this summer – the Northwoods Triple Crown at the Langlade County Fairgrounds, held August 11th – 13th. This year’s inaugural theme will be “Race into Adventure” honoring the many equine trainers and businesses that started right here in the Northwoods. Some of you may have enjoyed those good times, while some will find it fascinating that world-famous trainers and educators got their start right here in Antigo. The book “Cats to Kings,” written by Lisa Haefs and Jeff Winters will provide some insight.

Friday, August 11th starts off with the equine sort demonstrations and a barbeque honoring local families, past and present, from the Wisconsin Horse Racing Association. Everyone is welcome. The Triple R Club is picking up the tab for many of the out of town guests. If you know someone that needs to be on the out of town guest list, please call me, Shaughn Novy, at (715) 610-1065, or email me at slnovy20@gmail.com.

Weekend tickets will go on sale soon at our website and at Fantastic Sam’s Stores for $17 and will include educational equine demonstrations Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Rice Bull Company’s Barrels and Bulls, and a barn dance on Saturday night with music by Polar Express, a country and variety band from Appleton. On Sunday, barrel racers from Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan will be competing in the Menominee Casino Slot Races. Everything will wrap up with the Youth Challenge. Be sure to let your friends and relatives know they won’t want to miss the fast-paced fun and excitement. Watch for the local riders and get ready to cheer them on.

Brickners of Antigo and RV Center is the presenting sponsor and along with many businesses the City of Antigo Hotel/Motel Commission and numerous non-profit organizations. Black Hawk Hills Inc., a non-profit new to this area, is able to offer a quality equine event which will be advertised statewide.

If grilling is your thing, get your team ready for one of the Northwoods grilling competitions that will be taking place. If tasting is what you prefer, the People’s Choice Taste of the Northwoods will be what you will enjoy.

Everyone that enjoys barrels, bulls, and barbeque will enjoy themselves at Brickners of Antigo and RV Center’s Northwoods Triple Crown.
