Antigo picks up another quality GNC win over Mosinee on misty night

Antigo baseball picked up another quality win on Tuesday evening, taking down the likes of the Mosinee Indians 11-6 at Kretz Field on a relatively damp and misty night.
“This was a big win against one of the better teams in our conference,” head coach Scott Farmer noted. “It was nice to jump out to that big cushion as we needed every bit of it.”
Antigo held a 9-0 lead after just two innings, thanks in part to a two-RBI triple for Wade Farmer in the bottom of the first and consecutive base hits for Hunter Kirsch in the first and second innings.
Mosinee scored four runs in the fourth inning and another two in the top of the fifth. Antigo secured two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Brady Tatro led off with a double followed by RBI singles for Garret Held and Collin Meinert.
AJ Kirsch started the game for the Robins, lasting 3 2/3 innings in which he had three strikeouts and three walks, allowing three hits and one earned run (four runs scored total). As Cody Urban was brought in for one inning of work he posted one strikeout and four walks, giving up one hit and two runs to his credit.
Jesse Jankowski did well in his 2 1/3 innings’ worth of mound time, closing the game with three strikeouts, two walks, two hits and zero runs allowed.
“AJ threw well. They really struggled to get onto him until he started working behind in the count. Jesse came in and did a good job – it got very interesting in the last inning but [we] settled down and shut the door,” Farmer commented.
Offensively, Tatro finished 2-3 with two RBIs, while H. Kirsch was also 2-3 with three runs batted in. Matt Arndt was 1-1, showing his baserunning talents with two stolen bases and two runs score.
“We hit the ball well all day even most of our outs were scorched. Brady and Hunter had nice days at the plate and knocked in five runs between them. Mosinee’s pitching was good and we really did well at the plate,” Farmer added.
Antigo plays again this Friday against Stevens Points at Bukolt Park, beginning at 4:30 PM.
