Gary Gibbs, 74

Gary Gibbs, of Lily, died Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Aspirus Langlade Hospital. He was 74 years old. He was born on December 5, 1942 in Waukesha, a son of Daniel Boone and Marion (Vanderhei) Gibbs. He married Esther Hernandez on January 23, 1965 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waukesha. She survives.

He graduated from Waukesha High School with the class of 1960.

Gary enlisted in the United States Army on December 15, 1961 and was stationed in Korea. He was discharged on December 14, 1964.

Following military service he returned to Waukesha and joined his father’s business, Gibbs Painting and Decorating. A company Gary operated from 1968 to 2006.

After retirement he moved to Lily where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and time with family and friends around the campfire.

Gary was a member of the American Legion Post #405 in Dousman and St. John Lutheran Church in Pickerel.

Survivors including his wife are a daughter, Idamarie (Scott) Ball of Clyman, WI; two sons, Daniel (Michelle) Gibbs, of Oconomowoc, Gary “Woody” Gibbs, of Sullivan; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandson; a sister, Cherie McCoy of Novato, California; a brother, James (Lynn) Gibbs of Dousman.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Daniel Gibbs.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 8, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Pickerel with Rev. Michael Mathey officiating. Burial will take place in Lily cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the American Legion #524, White Lake.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church.

Bradley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
