Lady Robins falter after excellent first half against Lumberjacks

For the Antigo Times
The Antigo girls varsity soccer team took on the Wausau East Lumberjacks on a beautiful Tuesday night at Listle field. In their second game of the season, the Lady Robins fell to East 9-0 after an exhausting finish.
“The girls were ready for what faced them and came out strong. Defense was able to do a magnificent job in the back while the midfielders kept the ball moving up the field,” head coach Bethany Bauknecht said.
Sophomore Emma Brown was once again between the pipes and did an amazing job of denying East’s shots. Antigo did a phenomenal job of holding their own up again East’s advances and played an amazing first half – not allowing the Lumberjacks to see the back of the net – making the score 0-0 going into the half.
The second half was a different story.
The Lady Robins, already exhausted from their Monday opener and still with only one sub, were not ready when they returned to the pitch. Antigo allowed East to put five goals in within the first 10 minutes of the second half. The girls fought hard and never gave up, leaving everything they had on the field, but with two injuries it left the Robins finishing the game completely fatigued and with only 10 girls on the pitch.
The final was 9-0.
Antigo travels to Ashland on April 11 for its first conference game of the season.
