Lady Robins lose starting goalie Brown during GNC match against Ashland

For the Antigo Times

The Lady Robins soccer squad took on the Ashland Oredockers on a beautiful yet cool Tuesday night in Ashland, falling to the Oredockers 10-0 in 74 minutes of play.

The Oredockers caught the Robins off-guard and had three goals within the first 10 minutes. The Lady Robins found their groove at midfield, passing the ball effectively up to the attack only to be shut down by Ashland’s defensive line. Freshman McKenzie Schroepfer, along with freshman Jena Nonnenmacher and sophomore Kailee Pomasl, did an amazing job of keeping the ball away from the goal.

Sophomore Emma Brown was between the pipes and had 17 saves before she incurred a shoulder injury during an amazing sliding save. Freshman Jami Nonnenmacher of the Robin’s defensive line took on the challenge of filling the goal.

The score was 5-0 at the half.

At the start of the second half, with an inexperienced goalie, Ashland was able to get two swift goals. The Lady Robins, despite the circumstances, still played extremely well together and sophomore Brianna Tarras had a beautiful shot on goal that ricocheted beyond the goalie but was then denied by defense.

Interim goalie Jami Nonnenmacher had 12 great saves in a great effort as a substitution goalkeeper.

The Robins take on Lakeland in Minocqua this Thursday at 7 PM.
