Monte L. Larson, 76, Winneconne, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at his residence.
He was born on June 16, 1940 in Mattoon, the son of the late O. James and Katherine (Hayes) Larson. On October 13, 1962, Monte was united in marriage to Lois Schmidt in Mattoon. She survives.
Monte was a US Navy Veteran. He was employed at James River Corporation, Menasha until his retirement. The couple then moved to Lake Tomahawk where they enjoyed retirement life for 22 years before moving to Winneconne. Monte liked doing anything that involved being outside. He loved to fish, hunt and flower and vegetable gardening. He also loved making clocks out of wood and cooking.
Monte is survived by his wife, Lois Larson, Winneconne; three children, Lisa Vanesky, Oshkosh, Kevin Larson, Wild Rose and Melissa (Greg) Meath, Winneconne; six grandchildren, Ashley (Jarod), Kristina (Paul), Anthony (Deena), Cassie (Trevor), Austin and Harlen; four great-grandchildren, Tristin, Caleb, Asher and Jude and brothers and sisters, Dennis (Elaine) Larson, Boise, Idaho, Rebecca (Otta) Landwehr, Mattoon, Trudy (Richard)….. and Roxanne (Dan) Grachanim, Tennessee.
The Funeral Service will be held at 1PM, Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Mattoon Church of the Nazarene. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Town of Hutchins with military rites conducted by the John Owen American Legion Post #287, Mattoon. Visitation will be held from 11am until the time of service at the church.
