For the Antigo Times

Under chilly, windy spring weather, the Antigo boys tennis team took care of business against its fellow conference foes Medford and Phillips, dropping just one flight on the day.

Playing Medford first, the boys swept through the first six flights. The only contested match was at No. 2 doubles, where Collin Schedlbauer and Cole Johnson had to fight back in the second set after falling behind the first three games. The team’s only loss of the day came at No. 3 doubles where Brody Bunnell and Jake Waters battled a solid team but came up short.

After the 6-1 victory, the boys took a break while Medford beat Philips 7-0. The Red Robins came back to the courts and overwhelmed the much less experienced Loggers.

Tanner Stueck was challenged by a feisty Vince Ringersma, who took the first three games. Stueck came storming back to win the next 11 straight games and closed out the second set 6-1 to give the Antigo boys a 7-0 victory.

“It was poor tennis playing conditions but the boys had a positive attitude and continued to show improvement,” Coach Dave Zalewski said afterwards.

Next up is a home doubleheader against Lakeland at 3:45 on Thursday. If raining, the match will be played Friday at Lakeland.
