For the Antigo Times

The Antigo boys closed out their dual meet season on a high note, defeating both Wausau East 4-3 and finishing the day against Shawano by the score of 5-2 on Tuesday night.

The meet was delayed by an hour due to rain and finished early once the emergency sirens started wailing because of a tornado warning. But in between the crazy weather, the boys played some pretty good tennis.

Drew Schwarz and Ben Bartletti added to their winning total, taking care of business against East and Shawano to remain undefeated. Husnick was efficient in his matches at No. 1 singles, taking down both his opponents.

The team of Jake Waters and Brody Bunnell also won each of their matches at No. 3 doubles. Tanner Stueck lost a hard fought match against Wausau East but rebounded well to easily defeat Shawano’s Chen. The same was true of Antigo’s No. 2 doubles team of Cole Johnson and Collin Schedlbauer. Tommy Blink, playing at No. 4 singles, had an excellent match against a tough East player to win in straight sets. Ben Morris stepped in at No.  4 singles for his first varsity match and, though he lost against Piantek of Shawano, he was impressive with his hustle and effort.

“It was a good day for the team. It had been many years since we defeated Wausau east. The win against Shawano was important because they are in our subsectional and this directly affects the seeding. These wins improve our position at subsectional and hopefully gives us more momentum heading into the tournament on Monday at Rhinelander,” Coach Dave Zalewski said.
