Genevieve Kakes, 94

Genevieve Kakes, of Antigo, died Monday, May 1, 2017 at Eastview Medical and Rehabilitation Center. She was 94 years old. She was born on August 17, 1922 in the Town of Norwood, a daughter of Joseph and Rose (Liska) Pizl. She married Richard Kakes on June 21, 1947 at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in Antigo. He preceded her in death on January 16, 1997.

She was a graduate of Antigo High School with the class of 1941.

Gen worked at Weinbrenner Shoe Company factory for 10 years followed by employment as a clerk at Woolworth Department Store in Antigo for 33 years.

She was a member of SS Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church and the Badgerland Classic Car Club.

Her husband Dick was the love of her life and they took great pride in their home they built together.

Gen loved gardening and baking and had an affinity for chocolate.

Survivors include four sisters-in-law, Audrey Heinzen, Beatrice Devore, Helen and Mavis Kakes; many nieces and nephews including Patty Hafner and Vickie Husnick who helped Gen for many years.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by five sisters, Mae (Clarence) Jansen, Mary (Joseph) Noskowiak, Ann (Clarence) Kiederlein, Helen (John) Kunkel, Rose Johnson Lilljeblad; three brothers, Fred (Ethel) Pizl, Ed Pizl, Joseph (Gladys) Pizl; and four brothers-in-law, Clinton Heinzen, Maurice Devore, Carl and Donald Kakes.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday May 4, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Queen of Peace Cemetery with Rev. Judah Pigon, M.F. officiating.
