Antigo varsity soccer took on the Amherst Falcons on a very rainy Monday night in Amherst, losing 4-0 in one of its closer matches of the year.

“[We] did an amazing job right from the start,” Coach Bethany Bauknecht said. “The midfield was on their game and pushed the ball up to attack well.”

The Robins changed up their defensive line, switching freshman Jami Nonnenmacher and putting her up front to attack while bringing junior Payton Bunnell down to defense. The move allowed Jami to have multiple shots on goal.

Amherst was finally able to make a cheap goal in the 37^th minute through a crowded defensive line when the Robins’ goalie, sophomore Emma Brown, lost sight of the ball. Amherst was able to come away with another quick goal after the wet ball slipped through the hands of the Robins’ goalie making the score 2-0 going into the half.

The Lady Robins started the second half on fire. The midfield and attack did their jobs very well, allowing the attack to continue to pressure Amherst’s defense keeping the ball in Amherst territory for most of the second half.

Senior captain Molly Brown had three shots on goal. Freshman captain McKenzie Schroepfer and sophomore Breanna Tarras did an amazing job keeping the ball in the attack and for a total of 12 shots, 9 of them on goal; the most shots on goal of the season.

Amherst was able to squeak two more goals in at the 51^st minute and 55^th minute. Despite the wonderful effort put out by the Lady Robins the final score was 4-0. They take on Wausau Newman on the road this evening.
