For the Antigo Times

Antigo girls soccer hosted the Amherst Falcons at Listle Field Monday night, where parents of the 2017 Lady Robins team were honored.

The Robins held their own against the Falcons’ quick attack and played a very aggressive game. The defense did a great job of clearing the ball, while goalie Emma Brown was able to make the key stops. Amherst was able to come away with their first goal in the 15th minute of the game and scored two more breakaway goals before the 24th minute.

Antigo also had some shots coming from freshman Jami Nonnenmacher, freshman Maddie Spencer and junior Kailee Pomasl. The Robins played well and were able to work together to try and prevent more breakaways, doing an exceptional job until the 37th minute of the game when the Robins fell victim to yet another Falcons’ goal.

Amherst led 4-0 going into halftime.

Halftime has always been an enemy to the Robins but Antigo played strong and was able to hold its own and had more shots from senior captain Molly Brown, junior Emily Schafer and sophomore Hannah Nonnemacher – all with no luck. The Falcons were able to finally create enough confusion in the 18-yard box and that allowed them to sneak the ball past Brown.

Antigo put up a great fight against a quick, forceful attack but ultimately fell 9-0 with Amherst taking the win.
