Dom P. Hilger, 43
Dom P. Hilger, of Antigo, peacefully died Sunday, June 25, 2017 surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was 43 years old. He was born on September 25, 1973 in Antigo, a son of Ralph “Jerry” and Shelby (Gray) Hilger. He married Rebecca Kelm on April 24, 2004 at Daytona Beach, Florida. She survives.
He was a graduate of Antigo High School with the class of 1991 and attended the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh for two years.
Dom worked at Kretz Lumber for a number of years. He returned to school and received a bachelors degree from Franklin University in Ohio while working nights and weekends at Leffel’s and Blackjack Supper Clubs.
Dom was a natural sales person and most recently worked for Hassel Material Handling based in Milwaukee as a salesman.
He loved hockey. He played in his youth and later coached for the Antigo Area Youth Hockey Association for many years. Dom served on their board of directors and is past president of the association. Under his leadership the association was successful in raising funds to operate the association and purchase a new zamboni. He enjoyed participating in the Joe Piskula summer hockey camp and encouraging youth to learn and love hockey. He was recently inducted into the AAYHA Hall of Fame.
He enjoyed hunting at the Hilger cabin in Goodman, fishing, golfing, spending time outdoors and watching his children in their activities.
Survivors including his wife Becky are their three children Jack, Greta, and Lily all at home; a sister, Cherish (Jef) Glubka, Winneconne; a niece and a nephew who are his godchildren Melia and Dominick Glubka; father and mother-in-law, Fred and Kathie Kelm, Antigo; a sister and brother-in-law, Jenni (Mike) Krahenbuhl, Neenah; and their sons Matt and Scott; many aunts, uncles and cousins; a step-mother, Mary Hilger, Antigo; and his best friend whom he considered a brother, Kurt (Dana) Koszarek, DePere and their children Quinn, Emersyn and Kade (Dom’s godchild).
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday June 28, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating.
Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Bradley Funeral Home and 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday also at the funeral home. A parish wake service will be held at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
