Hodag Water Shows Thru August 20th (Sun. & Wed.) 7pm Hodag Park, Boom Lake, 1103 Thayer St., Rhinelander. HWS performs a show that features acts such as ballet, jump, swivel skiing, trick skiing, barefooting, doubles, trios, wakeboarding, and pyramid. Members range in age from 6 to almost 50 and some of the members have been with the team for more than 30 years. Play & Learn – Maly Dairy Farm Field Trip August 10th 9:30 am W7880 Hwy. O, Bryant. Visit the animals on the farm. Ragtime Pianist Bob Milne August 10th 7:30pm Three Lakes Center for the Arts, 1760 Superior St., Three Lakes. Renowned ragtime pianist Bob Milne, one of the best ragtime piano players in the world, is an amazing musician who can play multiple complex rhythms simultaneously while carrying on a conversation, lecturing on ragtime music, and cracking jokes. Since childhood, Milne has had the prodigy-like ability to hear any musical score and replicate it on the keys. Northwoods Triple Crown August 11th-13th Langlade County Fairgrounds, 1633 Neva Road, Antigo. A new event is arriving in Antigo, August 11th-13th called the Northwoods Triple Crown, highlighting equine with Pro Bulls-N-Barrels, Slot Race & Youth Challenges, and equine demonstrations along with a Grillmaster’s Challenge. Weekend tickets will include educational equine demonstrations Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Rice Bull Company’s Barrels – N – Bulls competition, and a barn dance on Saturday night with music by Polar Project. On Sunday, barrel racers from Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan will be competing in the Menominee Casino Slot Races. Everything will wrap up with the Youth Challenge. DNR Trapper Course August 12th-13th 8am-5pm Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, 223 Steinfest Rd., Antigo. Anyone interested in trapping or in need of completing mandatory trapper education course, an August trapper education class will be offered. The class will be held as a Learn-to-Trap event & will involve a significant amount of hands-on instruction & learning. The class will be limited to the first 30 students who register through the Antigo DNR office, which is open Monday through Friday from 11am to 2pm. The registration cost is $12 per student. If you are unable to register during these hours, please contact Carrie Bean at 715-623-4190 extension 3104 to make arrangements. Students will learn furbearer identification, habits, habitat requirement, history of trapping, trapping techniques, trap placement, skinning animals, trapping ethics & laws. There are no minimum age requirements, but the class is designed for 12 year olds. If you are a student with disabilities, please specify any accommodations needed at the time of registration.
Jack Lake Trail Day August 12th-13th 8am-Noon. Jack Lake Campground, N8375 Park Road, Deerbrook. Our first official volunteer work days for Jack Lake Trail building will be the weekend of August 12th at Jack Lake. We will work from 8am-noon on both Saturday & Sunday with lunch provided at noon. Please bring garden rakes, shovels, loppers, or anything else you feel might be handy – clearly marked with your name. We will have some tools available for use, but it is always better to have more than not enough! The bugs will be bad, so bring bug juice, & if you can stand long pants & long sleeves, it is recommended. Bring your swim suit & jump in the lake to cool off & clean up after the work is done! Green Bay Packers Youth Football Camp August 12th 8:30-11:30am Merrill Area Recreation Complex (M.A.R.C.), 1100 Marc Drive, Merrill. For boys & girls ages 6-14.
