Avalon Lester Baker, of Antigo, died Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Rosalia Gardens, under the care of his family and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.  Lester was 90 years old.  He was born September 7, 1926 in Caplin Cove, Newfoundland, Canada, the son of Wilson and Leonie (Martin) Baker.  He married Florence Shirley Kennedy on August 1, 1953 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  She preceded him in death on July 17, 1992.

Lester retired from Trane Corporation of Canada in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, September of 1987, where he was a brake operator for 34 years.  Shirley and Lester retired to Bradeen, Newfoundland, Canada.

In 1993, Lester moved to Tampa, FL and married Nancy (Patternson) Pearce-Spear on July 24, 1993.  Nancy preceded him in death on January 1, 2017.

Lester is survived by six siblings, Donald Baker of Antigo, Moses Baker and wife Donna, of Lancaster, PA, Annie (Baker) Whalen, of Caplin Cove, Newfoundland, Canada, Cyril Baker and wife Janette of Caplin Cove, Newfoundland, Canada, Ted Baker of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and Melvin Baker and wife Florence of Caplin Cove, Newfoundland, Canada.  Lester was preceded in death by two sibling, George Baker of Caplin Cove, Newfoundland, Canada and Jane (Baker) Stringer of Hodges Cove, Newfoundland, Canada

A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 7 at 10 am at Elmwood Cemetery with Rev. Moses Baker, officiating.
