A mythical saga directed by Robert Zemeckis, this epic fantasy film follows a Scandinavian warrior who sets out to save a kingdom by vanquishing monsters, dragons, and a bewitching creature of the deep. Notably, the film was created through a motion capture process similar to the technique Zemeckis used in The Polar Express. The self-guided tour winds through some of the prettiest back roads & byways in Vilas, Oneida, Iron, Langlade & Lincoln Counties. Art lovers will not only meet painters, potters, photographers, furniture makers, wood carvers, jewelers, glass & fiber artists face to face on their journey, but also enjoy the process of discovery & potential for unexpected delight. Artists will be discussing their creative processes & will reveal their inspirations. Questions will be answered. Ideas shared. Demonstrations given. Stories told. Hibernator 100 Bike Ride October 7th T-Bob’s, 4863 Elm St., Laona. 8am for the bikes, 8:30am for the runners. A 100 mile or 100 K or 29 mile limited support gravel road ride through the Nicolet National Forest hosted by the Laona Rescue Squad. Now is the time to pack in some more miles and enjoy the amazing fall colors of the Nicolet National Forest. Something for the non-riders – Walk/Run/Hike 5, 10 & 20 K routes will be available for those looking to see the Nicolet by foot. There is no registration fee. A donation of $20 will help cover expenses and support the Laona Rescue Squad.
Langlade County Ice Age Trail Chapter Hike October 7th 9am-3pm Langlade County Fairgrounds – County Forestry Office, 1633 Neva Road, Antigo. Join us for the chapter’s National Trails Day hike on a section of the Ice Age Trail in Langlade County. The October hike will be a 5 mile round trek on the Parrish Hills segment. Meet in front of the Langlade County Forestry Office at the Fairgrounds. Participants are encouraged to wear suitable clothing and bring a lunch. Eagle River Cranberry Fest October 7th-8th 9am-3pm Vilas County Fairgrounds, Hwy. 70 W, Eagle River. With more than 40,000 people attending the festival annually, this event is one of the highlights of the fall season in Eagle River. There will be cranberry marsh tours.
