George C. Schweitzer, 97
He was born February 22, 1920 in the Town of Rolling, son of the late Fred and Ann (Strasser) Schweitzer. He married Mary Ann Schattl on June 3, 1944 in Phlox, and she preceded him in death on August 28, 1996.
Mr. Schweitzer attended Strassburg Grade School, and was a 1938 graduate of Antigo High School. He Served in the US Army from September 5, 1942 to September 14, 1943. He was employed as a plumber and steamfitter by trade. He worked for the US Air Force at the 676 Radar Squadron from May, 1952 to the closing of the base on June 30, 1977.
Mr. Schweitzer was active in the Antigo community, serving as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, past Commander of the local American Legion post, Board of Directors of Queen of Peace Cemetery, and holding various offices in the Knights of Columbus and Antigo Elks Club.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Dorothy (Lester) Norton of Wausau, and Linda (Mark) Adams of Combined Locks; 2 sons, James (Barb) Schweitzer of Two Rivers, and David (Jill) Schweitzer of Gurnee, IL; 9 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Philip Schweitzer, and Edwin Schweitzer; a granddaughter, Sara Adams; and a great granddaughter, Lindley Norton.
A funeral mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 16 at St. John’s Catholic Church with Fr. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Visitation will be 9:00-11:00 Saturday at the St. John’s Catholic Church Hoffmann Hall. Entombment with military honors will follow the service at Queen of Peace Mausoleum.
