Karen Marie Shannon passed away peacefully on September 27, 2017.

She was born on February 19, 1935 to the late Franklin and Helen (Martin) Seitz. Karen was one of four children born to the couple including her brothers Dean (Costa Rica), Jim (Milwaukee) and Gary (deceased).

Karen graduated from Washington High School in Milwaukee and then attended Carroll University where she obtained double majors in English and Spanish. She taught both subjects at Antigo High School for the entirety of her career.

In June of 1957, Karen married John Sable (deceased 7/3/1979). They have two surviving children; Lisa (Green Bay) and Anthony (Montana), and two grandchildren Molly (UW-Madison) and Bennett (UW-LaCrosse).

Karen married her current husband Jeff Shannon (Antigo) on January 15, 1981. Jeff was married previously to Constance Smith (deceased 1975). Jeff and Constance had two children Jeff Jr. (Ashland) and Christopher (deceased 1992), and one grandchild Austin (Ashland).

Karen embraced the joining of the two families and was a wonderful mother and wife.

Karen loved laughter and her quick wit and engaging smile will be remembered fondly by family and friends. She cared deeply about other people and was part of a quilting club that created and sent quilts to needy countries. She was spiritual and involved with the Calvary Lutheran church, including participation in the choir.

Family and friends may call at Calvary Lutheran Church beginning at 10:30 on Thursday, October 5. A memorial service will take place at 11:30 with Pastor Karen Tews officiating.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family is creating a memorial fund to promote literacy and learning opportunities for Antigo youth. Donations can be sent to the Antigo Library Foundation.

The Family extends sincere gratitude to the staff of Angels Touch Assisted Living and Heartland Hospice for their excellent care and kindness during this difficult time. Karen was a bright light in the lives of many and will be deeply missed.
