Richard V Zacharias, 80
Richard V Zacharias, of Deerbrook, died Thursday, November 2, 2017 at home under the care of LeRoyer Hospice and his family. He was 80 years old. He was born on July 20, 1937 in Kaukauna, a son of Vincent and Helen (Schaefer) Zacharias. He married Joyce Winkler on August 6, 1960 in Chilton. She survives.
Richard attended St. Mary grade school in Kaukauna and graduated from Kaukauna High School with the class of 1955. He served in the United States Army in 1955 and 1956, then entered the Army Reserves.
He worked at the George Walters Brewery in Appleton for several years. Richard and his family lived in Chilton for 27 years. For 40 years he worked as a cable splicer for General Telephone, which later became Verizon, retiring in 2000. He moved to Deerbrook in 1994.
He was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America serving as Cub Master for 15 years. Richard was a member of the Jaycee’s in Chilton and instrumental in the founding of Hobart Field. He served on the Chilton Volunteer Fire Department and worked as an EMT for Calumet Medical Center. Richard was a member of St. Wencel Catholic Church in Neva and served as chairman of the building and grounds committee. He did volunteer work for the Langlade County Humane Society.
He enjoyed making maple syrup, cutting firewood, hunting and fishing.
Survivors including his wife are a daughter, Julie (Peter) Stumbris, Clintonville; five sons, Kenneth (Carolyn) Zacharias, Green Bay, Kevin (Andrea) Zacharias, Stoughton, Karl (Anita) Zacharias, Mondovi, Kurt (Tammy) Zacharias, Hudson, Kristopher (Cristiane) Zacharias, Green Bay; a sister, Helen Lenz, Little Chute; a brother-in-law, Tom (Mary) Stilp, Stockbridge; 18 grandchildren Courtney and Melissa Rach, Anthony (Kayla), Joseph, Matthew, Nicholas, Jonathan, Jaqueline, Andrew, Alexander, Katherine, Nikki, Jenna, Jacob, Quinn, Griffin, Bryce, Croix Zacharias.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, Michelle Zacharias, and Keith Zacharias; two sisters, Ann Ehnerd and Phyllis Stilp; a brother, James Zacharias, a brother-in-law, Norm Lenz.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday November 7, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Wencel Catholic Church, with Rev. Zach Weber and Rev. Jeremiah Worman concelebrating. Burial will take place in Kempster Lakeside Cemetery where the Elcho Veterans will conduct military honors.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the Bradley Funeral Home and 8:45 to 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday also at the funeral home. A parish wake service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home
