Officer Andrew Hopfensperger awarded Medal of Valor from President Trump.

Officer Andrew Hopfensperger of the Antigo Police Department was in Washington DC today to receive the Medal of Valor at President Trump’s Public Safety Medal of Valor Awards Ceremony.

Hopfensperger was checking cars in the Antigo High School parking lot Saturday, April 23, 2016 during the junior prom when 18-year-old Jakob Wagner shot and wounded two people as they left the dance. The records say Hopfensperger shot Wagner multiple times to stop the attack. Wagner later died after life-saving measures at a nearby hospital. Two other individuals were injured – a female victim was treated and released, while a male victim underwent surgery for non-life threatening injuries.

Hopfensperger was one of twelve first responders to receive the Medal of Valor today. The Medal of Valor is the highest decoration for bravery exhibited by public safety officers in the United States.
