Wittenberg-Birnamwood Chargers fall to Wrightstown at Regionals

The Varsity Boys from Witt-Birn had a tough battle Friday, March 2 at Regionals.  Wrightstown is a strong team and the Chargers stuck with them neck and neck.  Coach Lon Ebel thought that the guys weren’t quite ready for the speed and quickness Wrightstown possessed and Witt-Birn was down 12 points in the first few minutes.  The Chargers gained their composure and fought back, made adjustments and were able to take the lead a few a few times in the second half, but Wrightstown answered every time, hitting some deep 3’s down the stretch.

Coach Ebel said, “I just want to thank this group of seniors. They’ve meant a lot to me and our basketball program.  Trevor, Cory, Matt, Casey, Ian, Thrunder, Gavin and Keegan – I’m going to miss this group.  Several of them have played varsity for us for four years and it has been a fun group to coach and watch them grow and mature.  I will cherish the multitude of memories that I’ve shared with them. I wanted to keep this going for them, but also for me.  It’s unfortunate that we are done because we were really playing good basketball down the stretch.  We always just asked these guys to compete, and we went down fighting tonight.”

The final score of Friday’s game was 74-85. Wrightstown moved on to face Little Chute, where they won 63-60. They move on to face Xavier on March 8, with the winner of that game moving on to quarter finals on March 10.
