Dairyland Walkers to host walks in Antigo, Shawano
The Dairyland Walkers, a Madison-area nonprofit group promoting fitness through noncompetitive walking, will host 5K and 10K walks open to the public in Antigo on Sunday, May 20. Walkers may register at the City Park West shelter between 8th Ave. and 9th Ave. anytime between 8 and 11 am and then start walking. Maps and directions will be provided. Please finish walking by 1 pm. The walk makes a large loop passing through a number of city parks, through Queen of Peace Cemetery, features the Springbrook Walking/Biking Path, and passes the Langlade County Seat and the County Historical Society Museum. The cost is $3 for those accumulating Volkssport credit or $2 for youths and noncredit adults.
A walk in Shawano will be held the day before, on Saturday the 19th, starting from the Sturgeon Park shelter at the intersection of Oshkosh and Water Streets. For that event, people may register and start walking anytime from 10 am to 1 pm. This will also have a 5K and 10K route.
Maps and directions for other walks in Crandon and at Legend Lake will be available on this weekend so walkers may do them at some time in the future. These four walks will then complete the club’s objective of doing volkssporting walks in every county in Wisconsin.
The Dairyland Walkers is an affiliate club of the American Volkssport Association (AVA) headquartered in Texas. Clubs located throughout the United States put on walk events throughout the year. For information on other walk events in the United States, visit www.ava.org.
