Antigo Boys Tennis showing improvement, but takes another loss to Pacelli

For the Antigo Times

The boys tennis team lost by the same score to Pacelli as last week, 1-6. But the two matches were very different in that every match was fairly competitive. “This team has come a long way in a short time. Every time they step out into the court, I see improvement. Last week we only won a few games in all the matches combined. This week, almost every boy had an opportunity to win,” said Coach David Zalewski.

Three of the flights got pushed to three sets. Brody Bunnell and Joe Bartletti did a fantastic job coming back from a set down at 1 doubles. “They could have folded, but these two play with a lot of determination and figure out a way to win.” Tanner Stueck played very well at 1 singles and ended up the last off the court. Both he and his opponent split sets by identical 6-4 scores, and had to play the third set under the new lights. Tanner came up just short, dropping the third 3-6.

The most improved players on the team, Jared McFarlane and Zach Reineke, lay in the most entertaining match of the day.  After losing the first three games, the pair found their rhythm, winning the second set in a tiebreaker but came up short on the third.

“Overall, this was our best meet of the year. The whole team put forth a solid effort”.

Antigo plays at Rhinelander on Thursday.
