Antigo falls to Medford on tennis courts
For the Antigo Times
Tuesday was a beautiful day for tennis. Unfortunately, the robin tennis team didn’t match the wonderful weather with their performance, losing to Medford 1-6. The singles players all got crushed, with no one managing to win more than one game. “The singles players had a significant let down. They didn’t perform up to their abilities,” said Coach David Zalewski.
The doubles teams competed much better, with Antigo’s lone win coming at the number one flight. Joe Bartletti and Brody Bunnell lost the first three game, but figured out their Medford opponents through aggressive net play to win both sets 6-4, avenging an earlier loss in the season. Zach Reineke and Jared McFarlane put up a spirited fight at two doubles, but came up a little short. “These two bring their best every match. Win or lose, they have fun and compete enthusiastically.” At three doubles, Anthony Lenzner and Tyler Hickman did a good job making the match competitive in the second set.
Antigo plays Lakeland at home on Thursday and hosts the conference tournament on Friday.
