For the Antigo Times

Antigo Soccer traveled to Mosinee Thursday night to take on the Indians. Antigo started the game with first touch and did a nice job keeping the ball on the offensive side. Hannah Nonnenmacher did a nice job at center clearing the ball up to attack, however, they were quickly shut down by Mosinee’s defensive line.

Mosinee had an unmanned girl at mid and took the ball up for the first shot and found the back of the net at 7:39. Defense, playing without their sophomore captain McKenzie Schroepfer due to a hamstring injury, was doing their best clearing the field. Senior captain Payton Bunnell did an amazing job holding her line and getting Mosinee offside.

Mosinee was able to get a cheap goal at 17:59 after Antigo’s goalie Jena Nonnenmacher lost sight of the ball in a muddled mess in front of her goal. After the restart, Antigo was able to take control of the game once again and sophomore Tanesha Spencer sent Jami Nonnenmacher up the field with a nice pass that was interrupted by a Mosinee handball, setting Antigo up for a PK. Hannah Nonnenmacher took that PK and scored, putting Antigo on the board with a score of 2-1.

Four minutes later, Antigo’s goalie had a miraculous save that rebounded off the cross bar back down into play. She saved it again, but could not get it completely out of the net and the ball was pushed in for Mosinee’s 3rd goal of the night.

Antigo was able to hold Mosinee until the 43rd minute of the game. The score was 4-1 going into the half.

Mosinee had first touch at half, but Antigo was ready for them. They defended the ball beautifully, frustrating Mosinee and ultimately turning the game into quite the physical game. Mosinee was able to sneak in a breakaway goal at 58 minutes, bringing the score to 5-1. Mosinee’s #12, Kyla Herman was carded for unsporting and taken off the field, changing the dynamics of the Mosinee team.

Antigo continued to battle and never gave up on their team and played a clean game. Mosinee found the back of the net one last time, at 77 minutes making the final score 6-1. Goalie Jena Nonnenmacher had 23 saves for the night.

Antigo travels to Shawano on Tuesday for a 6:30 game.
