Homesteading Club May 7th 10am-Noon Rhinelander District Library, 106 N. Stevens St., Rhinelander. Mike and Mike, from the Northwoods Homesteading Club, will be at the Rhinelander District Library to answer your questions about basic homesteading skills, such as livestock care, fermenting beverages, gardening, and food preservation. Kristy Deetz’s drapery paintings on carved wood invoke and revise European canonical painting. A drapery may stand in for the body, free of specific gender connotations, while still creating a human presence. The often carved surfaces in the painting construction, along with the illusionistically painted drapery images, blend painting and sculpture, and object and illusion, allowing the referents to resonate on multiple levels. 6th Annual Bear 100 Bike Race May 12th 7am Nicolet National Forest, Laona. This is a minimal support gravel road cycling event through the Nicolet National Forest focusing on self-sufficiency and personal responsibility. You are responsible for yourself. New for 2018…race format and timing for all three routes! There are 3 routes, approximately 108 mile, 68 mile, and 31 mile. All participants will receive a map and cue sheet. Roads will be marked with arrows on stakes. Signage…some roads are unmarked. Some have road names, and some have US Forest Service road numbers. Zero your odometer at the start line so that you can follow the cues. Opportunities for water are marked on the maps as is a convenience store on the 108 mile route (bring cash or a card). Other than water at the designated locations (and the convenience store on the 108 mile route), if you want something you will need to bring it with you.
