Dennis Duane Hegewald, 71

Dennis D. Hegewald, 71 of Elderon, died on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born on June 21, 1946, the son of the late Walter ‘Tony’ and Mildred (Jensen) Hegewald.
On October 16, 1965, Dennis was united in marriage to Marianne Pingel at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. She survives.
Dennis was employed at American Can in Neenah, Kraft Foods in Wausau and most recently farmed in the town of Elderon until his retirement. Dennis and Marianne currently own and operate Mamas Place tavern in Elderon. Dennis enjoyed fishing, playing cards, deer hunting and the occasional trip to the casino. He was an avid Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers fan.
Survivors include his wife, Marianne of Elderon; three children, Jerry (Patti) Hegewald, John (Stephanie) Hegewald, and Julie (Jerry) Wanta all of Eland; five grandchildren, Colin, Brandon, Jordan, Hailey and Jaden; four step-grandchildren; one brother Dale (Margo) Hegewald of Eland and many other relatives and friends.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; sister Lana Verkuilen; a brother Walter Jr. in infancy; a sister Lois in infancy; brother-in-law Gene Verkuilen; and a niece Diane Verkuilen.
A Memorial service will be held at 4:00PM on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg. Deacon Dave Ashenbrenner will officiate. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Rest Cemetery, Elderon. Visitation will be on Saturday from 2PM until the time of service at the funeral home.
