For the Antigo Times

Mission Antigo is excited to announce that Antigo Community Church, Peace Lutheran Church, and Springbrook Church (formerly The Well), and Homestead Fellowship in cooperation with Thrivent Builds/Repairs and Langlade County Habitat for Humanity, have announced their third year of Mission Antigo, to be held June 16-22.

The goal of Mission Antigo is to show the love of Jesus Christ right here in our neighborhood by volunteering to help with home improvement and community projects. Volunteer activities include weeding, raking, trash removal, and other similar outdoor projects. Additionally, through Thrivent Builds/Repairs grants, Mission Antigo will be working directly with the city on both large and small home improvement projects.

In 2017, the Langlade County AVAIL organization was a recipient of the Mission Antigo team’s help with weeding, trimming, cleaning, and making the green spaces of the shelter more beautiful. They also assisted with repairs to the shelter’s wheelchair ramp thresholds to make them smoother for residents. According to the Executive Director of AVAIL, Michelle Arrowood, “[that] morning, we looked at a tree in front of the shelter that needed to be removed and a list of needs was started. Ten minutes later, the Mission Antigo group called to say they’d be by this morning to lend a hand. We did not ask, but somehow they knew. They came in with such love and enthusiasm that it was a gift beyond measure. We are so grateful for all they have done for us!”

Mission Antigo has grown significantly since beginning in 2016, when 75 volunteers worked on projects at 25 homes. In 2017, over 85 volunteers from at least eight different churches fill out time cards recording approximately 1,800 hours on nearly 40 recorded projects.

If you are looking for an opportunity to serve in our community, or are in need of project assistance, Mission Antigo encourages your feedback. Visit them online at www.facebook.com/missionantigo or call Antigo Community Church at 715-627-2805.
