Vernon J. Matsche, 88
Vernon J. Matsche, 88, of Wittenberg, died on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Homme Home of Wittenberg.
He was born on June 8, 1930, in the town of Aniwa, the son of the late Jacob and Anna (Resch) Matsche.
On September 28, 1968, Vernon was united in marriage to Marian Crothers. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2014.
Vernon was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a proud and active member of the Darling-Gunderson Post #341 American Legion and enjoyed walking alongside his fellow veterans in many parades. Vernon worked at the former veneer mill in Birnamwood and the Wisconsin Veneer & Plywood Inc, Mattoon. Vernie enjoyed gardening and fishing. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Vernon is survived by four children, Pete (Camille) Haisan of Edgerton, Trish (Ervin) Resch of Wittenberg, John Haisan and David Haisan both of Wausau; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and one brother, Norman (Alice) Matsche of Godfrey, IL.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, Charles and Richard, sister Edna Fischer, and two children, Michael and Richard Haisan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 25, 2018 at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Birnamwood. Fr. Anthony Ibekwe will officiate. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military rites conducted. Visitation will be on Monday from 9:00 AM until the time of mass at the church.
