Luella M. Schmidt, 92, of Wittenberg, died on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Ascension Saint Clare’s Hospital in Weston.

She was born on April 16, 1926, in Birnamwood, the daughter of the late August and Emma (Madson) Umland.

On February 24, 1951, Luella was united in marriage to Reuben Schmidt in Eveleth, MN. He preceded her in death on January 30, 2011.

Luella was a waitress for several years at Maple Hills Golf Course. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. Luella loved to garden and bake goods for her family and friends. She adored her family and treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren.

Luella is survived by three children, Dave (Jacki) Schmidt of Wittenberg, Jim Schmidt of Greenville, SC, and Gail (James) Beckwith of Wittenberg; three grandchildren, Shane (Brooke) Schmidt of Greenville, WI, Kari (Zack Krahn) Albrecht of Weston, and Daniel (Michelle) Beckwith of Green Bay; four great-grandchildren, Simon, Benji, Marshall and Mara; one sister, Lois Plautz of Pulaski; and two sisters-in-law, Edith Sontag of Lily and Adeline Beversdorf of VA.

Luella was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Robert Schmidt, one brother, Alfred Umland, and five sisters, Elsie Scholz, Dora Utecht, Ruth Thiex, Mary Gardner and Delores Guyette.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg. Rev. Clifford Kessen will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Wittenberg. Visitation will be on Friday from 9:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund, Wittenberg.
