Phyllis Valeria Bastle died Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Aspirus Langlade Hospital in Antigo at the age of 84.

She was born April 1, 1934 in the Town of Summit, daughter of the late Steve and Minnie (Kluball) Steger. She married Kenneth Joseph Bastle on January 31, 1960 in Milwaukee, and he preceded her in death on January 25, 2018.

She was a 1952 graduate of Antigo High School. Phyllis worked hard, and was employed at many Antigo and Milwaukee area businesses including potato farms, taverns, restaurants, and factories. She especially liked working with people.

Her family was most important to her, and she loved to get together with them. She was an excellent cook and baker, and memories of her apple pie, cookies, and apple fritters will be treasured forever. Phyllis was an avid sports fan, following the Brewers and watching her sons play in county league baseball. She also enjoyed bingo, trips to the casino, and gardening. She was a member of the Hyland Lakes Lioness Club, and later the Gleason Lioness Club.

She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Deerbrook, where she was active in Ladies Aid.

Survivors include a daughter, Pam (Bill) Moffitt of Waynesville, MO; 5 sons, Tom (Patty) Adamski of Oshkosh, Jeff (Laurie) Bastle of Antigo, Cliff (Julie) Bastle of Antigo, Ken (Holli) Bastle of Antigo, and Dan (Bobbie) Bastle of Pickerel; 15 grandchildren, Heather, Lori, Sheryl, Matt, Brandon, Brittney, Rob, Emily, Luke, TJ, Becky, Zach, Zoe, Garrett, and Colin; 4 great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Calvin, Nolan, and Elliot Jean; a sister, Lillian (Tony) Novak of Deerbrook; 5 brothers, Clarence of Gleason, Earl (Bessie) of Antigo, John (Jeanine) of Antigo, Dave (Sue) of Antigo, and Ed (Kathy) of Antigo; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and a sister-in-law, Joan Steger.

A funeral service will take place at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Deerbrook on Thursday, July 19 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Jerome Hahn officiating. Visitation will be at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 18 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. A second visitation will be Thursday, July 19 from 10:00-11:00 at the church. Interment will follow the service at Town of Summit Cemetery in Gleason.

The family extends a special thank you to Hands with Heart and Meals on Wheels for their caring services.
