Roy H. Schmidt, 84, Birnamwood, died on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born on December 29, 1933 in Birnamwood, the son of the late Fred and Erma (Kufahl) Schmidt.
Roy was a 1953 graduate of Birnamwood High School. He served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1956-1958.
On April 19, 1969, Roy was united in marriage to Judith Peterson at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. She survives.
The couple farmed the original farmstead in the town of Birnamwood. One could always recognize their farm by the large “Shalom” greeting on their barn. Roy enjoyed polka dancing, playing cards and deer hunting. Roy also enjoyed helping at the Sugarbush Pheasant Ranch. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Birnamwood. He loved all children, especially his grandchildren and was affectionately known as the M & M Man.
Roy is survived by his wife, Judith of Birnamwood; a daughter, Jodi (Chris) Kluck of the town of Bevent; daughter-in-law, Barbara Schmidt of Hortonville; grandchildren, Alec, Anna, Emily, Brady and Sawyer; siblings, Doris Schmidt of Wittenberg, Murl Hahs of Wittenberg, Verna Viegut of Birnamwood, Milton (Suzanne) Schmidt of Birnamwood, Earl (Judy) Schmidt of Birnamwood, Carol Kocina of Independence, MN and Rachel (Tom) Kluck of Tomahawk and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Lance; brothers, Donald and David in infancy and one sister, Erma Jean.
A memorial service will be held at 3PM on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Birnamwood. Rev. John Meachen will officiate. Visitation will be on Sunday from 11AM until the time of service at the church. Military rites will be conducted by the Darling-Gunderson American Legion Post #341, Birnamwood.
