On August 7, Kathy Packard, Wisconsin Auctioneer Association (WAA) auction professional recently took part in the 2018 Wisconsin State Auctioneer Bid Calling Championship, competing in a field of some of the best auctioneers in the state.

Packard finished as reigning champion for the bid calling contest, a big win for her and quite an accomplishment. She will go on to the International Auctioneers Association Championship in New Orleans in July of 2019, where she will compete against auctioneers from all over the world for the title of IAC Champion.

WAA auctioneer competitors are judged on their presentation, chant, voice timbre, body language, and other performance elements of effective auctioneering. Final participants are also judged on their answers of interview questions. The revered competition was held in a two-day event in January at the Wisconsin Auctioneer Association convention, and the finalists then head to the Wisconsin State Fair in August. This is a live auction in the Case IH Colosseum, in front of approximately 200+ live attendees, with the auction streaming live on Facebook to thousands.

“There’s no competition in the auction industry like (WAA) Wisconsin Auctioneer Association State bid calling championship,” Packard said. “I learned so much from competing with my professional peers, and I can’t wait to bring that experience back for my clients.”

“This will help me provide an even more enhanced auction experience for buyers and sellers in this great state.”

Kathy Packard is co-owner and one of the lead auctioneers of North Central Sales Auctions LLC of Antigo, Wisconsin. She has over 20 years of experience in the auction industry, selling a wide range of assets at auction. Her company conducts online, simulcast and live auctions with many benefits. She is active in the national and state auctioneer’s associations, and she is a past 2015 president of the Wisconsin Auctioneers Association. Kathy is graduate of the Credited Auction Institute (CAI) and has accomplished her inner personal communications class through the National Auctioneers Association. She is active in her community, raising large sums of money for various charities and schools. In her free time, she enjoys horseback riding and whitetail deer hunting with her husband Duke, children and grandchildren. She is a pioneer and voice of the auction industry who enjoys competing, learning and the camaraderie associated with the Wisconsin Auctioneer Association and National Auctioneers Association. Kathy Packard is an auctioneer with integrity and passion who works to promote one of the greatest historic professions “The Auction Professional”.

History, The forerunner to this contest was the “State Fair Bid-Calling Contest,” which started in 1991 by the “singing auctioneer” Le Roy Van Dyke and the late Roy D. Holler, a past president of the Wisconsin Auctioneers Association. During the first nine years, contestants were judged only on their bid calling.

In 1999, the contest was changed to the “Wisconsin State Auctioneer Championship” contest, and added the interview portion.
