1. Q) What is the general theme of Relay for Life of Langlade County this year and what was your inspiration behind choosing it?

Give Cancer the Boot is the theme of the 2018 Relay For Life. We are basing this off a Western setting. We want the Relay For Life to be a celebration of the work we do for the fight against cancer and for it to be a fun atmosphere, so howdy partner! Let’s rope in a cure!

2. Q) What special guests or inspirations has Relay decided on for the 2018 event?

Our Honorary Survivor this year is Julie Langseth. She is very excited to share her story at the Luminaria Ceremony starting at 9:30pm.

3. Q) In terms of the seasonal fundraising (chili cook-off, bake sale, cheese, bowling, etc.), what events did you find were particularly successful? With the Relay event for 2018 still upcoming, any planning or consideration for future projects yet?

We had some great successful fundraisers this year. One of the new fundraisers that were held this year was a meat raffle. This event was presented by teams Love, Hope, Relay and Camree’s Cancer Crushers, which brought in a great crowd and people got to leave with MEAT!!! Again this year, one very successful fundraiser was the Bowl-for-a-Cure 9 pin tap fundraiser presented by Camree’s Cancer Crushers team. Another very successful fundraiser, which was just held recently, was the 5th Annual RFL Fundraiser at Bula’s Barn, presented by the All For One team. This was a wine and goodies live auction along with stand-up comedy by Greg Dodge. Look for all these events again.

Relay for Life doesn’t just fundraise during one time of the year, we try to keep fundraising for the fight against cancer going all year long, so keep an eye out for different fundraisers all the time. Some future fundraisers to look for could be a .01K Reindeer Run, a volleyball tournament, a kickball tournament, and of course, brat frys, along with some of the ones that have been done in the past.

4. Q) Are there any new additions to Relay this year or anything participants, supporters, and onlookers may want to consider while attending Relay?

We will be holding a Cornhole Tournament at Relay this year. Sign-in starts at 6:00 pm the day of the event.  Teams of two can compete in a 32 single elimination bracket to win some cash. Please contact Paula Royce if you would like to participate in this fun tournament at 715-216-8842.

Relay For Life is a public event, so everyone is welcome.  Other activities that will be going on throughout the night will be live music, a silent auction, a Dude Looks Like a Cowgirl Contest, CURE the Bull, food, games, “Jumanji” (PG-13) as the movie in the park and much more.

5. Q) Lastly, as the event’s co-chairperson, what is your personal inspiration behind your support for Relay and how has it helped you along the way in motivating others to support the cancer-crushing cause?

I have participated in Relay For Life for over 20 years now in some form or fashion. I started out before high school participating with my family. Through the years I have met amazing people, and have heard stories from survivors and caregivers that have each touched me in a different way.  I Relay for every cancer survivor, every caregiver and to find a cure for this horrible disease.
