Violet Smitmajer, 90

Violet Smitmajer, of Antigo, died Sunday, September 9, 2018, at The Bay at Eastview. She was 90 years old. She was born on June 20, 1928, in Shawano, a daughter of Edward and Lena (Hommerding) Ingalls. She married Edward Smitmajer on May 3, 1950, in Waukegan, Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 20, 2009.

She attended Elmhurst grade school and Aniwa High School.

As a young lady she worked as a waitress for Uneeda Lunch in Antigo, the Bus Depot restaurant in Appleton and provided baby sitting services to several local families.

She and her husband operated a dairy farm in Polar for many years. From 1972 to 1983 Violet worked at Weinbrenner Shoe Company factory in Antigo and Merrill. Her last 21 years of employment were at Robbins Flooring Inc. in White Lake.

She was a member of the Leland-Tollefson VFW Post 2653-auxillary, and the ZCBJ Lodge 47.

She enjoyed knitting and the occasional beer.

Survivors include two daughters, Holly (Frank) Matucheski, Bryant, Cindy (Steve) Rasmussen, Wisconsin Rapids; four grandchildren, Michele (Christian ) Long-Matucheski, Oshkosh, Seth Matucheski, Bryant, Amanda (Yusuke) Yoshida, Japan, Ashleigh (Dustin) Halverson, Wisconsin Rapids; five great-grandchildren, Oliver Long, Ailin and Luka Yoshida, Westin and Violet Halverson; two sisters, Pearl Cleveland, Kaukauna, June Groeshel, Chilton; a brother, Tom (Mary) Ingalls, Spring Green.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Bradley Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
