Michael J. Leonard, 71
Mr. Michael Leonard of West Bend, formerly of Minneapolis and Milwaukee, passed away Friday afternoon, October 19, 2018, at St. Joseph Hospital in West Bend. He was 71 years old.
Mike was born in Antigo on December 3, 1946, son of Charles and Phyllis Mattek Leonard. He attended local schools, graduating from Antigo High School, Class of 1965 before attending classes at UW Oshkosh. He took a position with Milwaukee Road Railroad before serving in the US Army from 1967-1969. He later returned to Milwaukee Road (currently Canadian Pacific Railroad).
In June of 1970, Michael was united in marriage with Ellen Schultz. The couple lived in Milwaukee and raised two children, Michael and Michelle. In October 1987, he married Pam Stroik in Galloway, WI. They later had two children, John and Patrick.
In 1996, Mike was transferred to Minneapolis, MN where he finished out a career of 51 years, retiring in May of this year. He had recently moved back to Wisconsin to be near his family.
Mr. Leonard was an avid reader and loved walking, especially near waterways and Lake Michigan. He was a very social person and was happy to spend time with his children and grandson.
He is survived by his daughter Michelle Leonard of Chicago and three sons: Michael Leonard of Milwaukee, John Leonard and Patrick Leonard, both of Madison. He is further survived by his grandson Alexander Tsoris of Chicago, sister Phyllis Bretches of Wausau, a niece, nephews, other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Charles Leonard, Jr.
At Mike’s request, no formal services will be held. He will be laid to rest beside his family in Antigo at a later date.
