Update to Elcho Fire Fatality

The victim has been identified as 79 year old Calvin Helgeson who was the owner of the property.

No additional information is available at this time. The case remains under investigation.

On 12-30-18 at approximately 5:20 am, the Langlade County Dispatch Center received a report of a fully involved structure fire at N11570 CTH Z in the Town of Elcho. Langlade County Sheriff’s deputies, Elcho Fire/EMS as well as Fire District Alpha responded.

Human remains were located in the structure after the fire was extinguished. The case is still actively being investigated. An autopsy is scheduled and the cause of the fire is being investigated by the Langlade County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Langlade County Fire Investigation Team.

At this time, foul play is not suspected.
