Larry Allen Voras, 78
Larry Allen Voras, of Pickerel, died Saturday, January 26, 2019, at his home under the care of his daughter and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 78 years old. He was born on April 11, 1940, in Antigo, a son of the late Harold and Sophie (Pizon) Voras. He married Margaret Weritz on April 24, 1965 in Chicago. The couple later divorced. She preceded him in death on January 16, 2002.
Larry grew up in Pickerel and graduated from Pickerel Grade School. He graduated from Crandon High School in 1958.
He served as a combat Engineer in the United States Army, having been stationed in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri for one year and in Nellingen, West Germany for two years.
Larry was a water meter reader for the city of Wausau for over 35 years. In 1985 he moved to Mesa, Arizona and following retirement in 1993 he moved back to Pickerel.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, metal detecting and wood working.
Larry is survived by a daughter, Pamela Showers of Pickerel; two granddaughter, Amanda (Oliver) Kissick of Vero Beach, Florida, and Amy (Richard) Duss of Jim Falls, Wisconsin; great grandchildren, Jacob, Kaitlyn, Daisy, Evan, and Emily; a brother, Gerald (Florence) Voras of Appleton; a dear cousin, Fred (Lorraine) Manthey of Mullan, Idaho; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald “Jim” Voras.
Burial will take place in the Spring at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Pickerel.
