The Antigo Wrestling Team Competed at the Stratford Multi-Duals Friday Evening 1/11/19, Facing 3 of the Best Teams Wisconsin Has to Offer.

First up was 4th ranked Division 1 Holmen, the defending state runner up. Next was defending state champion and currently 4th ranked Division 2 Luxemburg-Casco, and the finale of the evening was multiple time defending state champion and currently 1st ranked Division 3 Stratford. Over the course of the 3 dual meets, Antigo faced 23 ranked wrestlers.
Highlights from the dual meet with Holman included Dylan Warax competing at 145 pounds. Warax was able to secure an early takedown and late near fall to win 9-6.
Competing at 152 pounds, Josh Heuss was able to control his match throughout, scoring multiple takedowns and near falls to win by major decision, 13-5.
Nick Roller dominated his match at 220 pounds, scoring an early takedown in the first period, riding his opponent out the entire second period, and then scoring a reversal and a pin in the third period.
4th ranked Holmen defeated Antigo 52-13.
Dylan Warax started the dual with Luxemburg-Casco with his second victory of the evening, securing two first period takedowns before pinning his opponent in 1:56 at 145 pounds.
5th ranked Collinn Eldridge was able to add another first period pin to his collection, collecting a fall at 1:39 at 195 pounds.
Nick Roller continued his impressive day with a second victory, this time securing the fall in 1:13 at 220 pounds.
Conner Dettman used punishing riding on top to secure a 9-1 victory at 113 pounds.
Logan Edwards used an early takedown and tough riding on top to win 3-1 at 126 pounds.
In a highly anticipated match up, 12th ranked Ben Stimac competed with 2nd ranked Bryce Bosman at 132 pounds. Stimac was able to secure two takedowns, before losing by fall in the second period.
4th ranked Luxemburg-Casco defeated Antigo 49-25.
Josh Huess showed incredible toughness on the bottom, dropping a decision to 6th ranked Derek Marten to start the Stratford dual.
Jovanni Castaneda showed similar grit in not allowing any near fall in a decision loss to Honorable Mention Devin Denee.
Nick Roller ended his phenomenal evening, winning his third match by fall, this time in the first period. Roller’s evening included three victories by fall, without giving up a single point against 3 of the toughest teams Wisconsin has to offer.
At 132 pounds, Ben Stimac had his second highly anticipated match of the evening matching up with 3rd ranked Max Schwabe. An exciting match to the finish, Stimac was able to secure a takedown to get within one point, but was unable to secure a late takedown, dropping a very tight 4-3 decision.
The 67-6 final score with Stratford doesn’t do justice to how well Antigo competed in the final dual meet. Stratford brought 11 ranked wrestlers into the match, and several Antigo wrestlers were able to not get pinned despite wrestling high level competition.
Also competing for Antigo were Seth Beaber at 106, Sam Hoffman at 120, Jaden Schoeneck at 132, Royce Bauer at 170, Korbin Krueger at 182, Brady VandeWeerd at 195, and Talik Bussey at heavyweight.
Up next for Antigo is a very important conference match up with Tomahawk. Currently Antigo and Tomahawk sit on top of the conference standings at 3-0. Varsity action starts at 7pm next Thursday evening, the 17th, in Tomahawk.
