FOR ANTIGO TIMES

On February 3rd and 10th, the Antigo Boys and Girls High School Bowling teams competed at Conference qualifiers for a chance to participate at the Wisconsin High School Bowling Club State Championships.  Coached by Trevor McCarthy, the Girls team of Lauren Rine, Ashlea Kreager, Olivia Fischer, Quinlan McCarthy, Minnie Steger, and Chloe Knapkavage completed the two leg event finishing 3rd in Division II and fell short of the cut to advance.  Ashlea Kreager finished in 5th place in singles, landing just one spot out of qualifying for the state singles competition.  Rine is the only senior on the roster, and the girls look to have a strong team returning to the lanes next year.

The Boys team, coached by Tom Kubeny, Brian Mattmiller, and Ryan McCarthy, consists of seven seniors, Kyle Schedlbauer, Jared McFarlane, Nick Tatro, Toby Dieck, Jake Fischer, Josh Jones, and Erik Nelson, and three underclassmen, Will Kubeny, Keaton Francl, and Kalsin Toth.  They ended the first day of competition finding themselves in 4th place in Division II.  The second phase would end successfully, as they finished the Conference competition in first place tallying the highest pin count in both Divisions I and II.  The Antigo Boys Bowling team will again compete at the state level, making this their 4th showing in the last 5 years.  In addition, Jared McFarlane solidified his opportunity to bowl in the state singles event by ending the regular season in 4th place.

The State qualifying events will be held at Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley in Green Bay Friday, March 1st and Saturday, March 2nd.   McFarlane will bowl singles on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and the team event begins at 7 p.m. that night.  The finals will be Sunday, March 3rd for all events.

Both Ashlea Kreager and Jared McFarlane will represent Antigo in another upcoming tournament, as the top 5 boys and girls in District 9 are slated to compete in the Wisconsin All Star Team Challenge on March 9th at Classic Lanes Fox Valley in Neenah.
