Gail Lorraine Smith, age 81, of Antigo, died Friday, February 08, 2019 at The Bay at Eastview.

Gail was born on November 26, 1937 in Milwaukee to the late Rudy and Evelyn (Thorne) Damitz.

Gail was united in marriage to James C. Smith on February 7, 1959 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Elcho.

Gail was a talented seamstress. She worked for Lee Hoerman Taylor in Antigo. She also made her daughters’ wedding dresses. Gail worked for Sheldon’s tying flies, was a photographer working for Payne Photograghy, worked as a housekeeper for many families, and was a caretaker for an apartment complex in Wausau when she and Jim lived in Wausau. The couple also resided in Crandon for 20 years. She also enjoyed fishing.

Gail was a graduate of Elcho High School class of 1956.
She was formerly a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Crandon and most recently a member at Ss. Mary’s & Hyacinth Catholic Church in Antigo.

Family meant to the world to Gail. Her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews were dearly loved by her.

Survivors, in addition to her husband Jim of Antigo, include two daughters; Jean (Terrel) Schlundt of Hartland and Vickie (John) Wagner of Antigo; a son Ed (Lee) Smith of Crandon; 9 grandchildren; Miranda (Joe) Saindon, Alyssa Smith, Avery (Natalie) Smith, Brittany (Fiancé Pete) Schlundt, Brianne (Tim) Kostican, TJ (Mandy) Schlundt, Joel Wagner, Casey (significant other Sydney) Wagner, Austin (significant other Kaylee) Wagner; great grandchildren; Harper, Evie, Mason and great grandchild to arrive in August; a sister Kathy (David) Dorn of Venice, FL and many nieces and nephews.

Gail was preceded in death by her parent; a grandson Aaron Smit; a brother David Damitz; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Clayton and Anna Smith.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Ss. Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church. Reverend Charles Hoffmann will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home and on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the service at the church.

Interment will be in Queen of Peace Cemetery.
