FOR ANTIGO TIMES

The Antigo Wrestling team started the post season with two champions and seven individuals advancing to sectionals next weekend at Appleton North High School.

The solid day of wrestling was highlighted by the two individual champions. Competing at 182 pounds, Collinn Eldridge continued his late season run with three pins, two of which were in the first period. His championship match was an incredibly impressive 30 second pin over Tommy Kratz, who is currently the 8th ranked individual in the state. Collinn was the only regional champion who won all three matches by pinfall.

Competing at 220 pounds, Nick Roller had possibly an even more impressive showing. Following a first round bye, Roller pinned Derek Gibbons, the 8th ranked wrestler in the state, and followed that up with an exciting finals match where he pinned the 11th ranked wrestler, Keith Tourtillott.

Ben Stimac, Antigo’s 132 pounder, was victorious in three of his matches, including a victory over 10th ranked Sam Bruss. Stimac started the day with a win via pinfall, before dropping a match to the fourth ranked wrestler, Noah Leisgang. Ben was able to over come the loss with two additional victories to finish 2nd.

At 170 pounds, Korbin Krueger used an overtime victory and first round bye to propel himself to third place.

Conner Dettman used an overtime victory in the first round and a decision in the 4th place match to finish 4th at 113 pounds.

Logan Edwards picked up a victory by fall in the first round and another victory by pin in the 4th place match at 126 pounds.

Josh Heuss picked up a major decision in the first round to help place 4th at 152 pounds.

Those 7 individuals who placed in the top four will advance to sectionals.

Seth Beaber just missed qualifying for sectionals taking 5th at 106 pounds. Seth’s victory was a decision win in the 5th place match.

Also placing 5th was Sam Hoffman, who was able to pick up a pair of victories during the tournament.

Dylan Warax picked up a victory at 138 pounds on his way to placing 6th. Also placing 6th was Royce Bauer at 160 pounds.

Also competing for Antigo on the day were Gideon Sass at 145 pounds, Brady VandeWeerd at 195 pounds, and Talik Bussey at Heavyweight.

Sectionals begin at 10:30 at Appleton North High School next Saturday, February 16th.
