Evelyn Emma Lena Jacobson, 103
Evelyn Emma Lena Jacobson was born June 16, 1915 in the town of Larrabee, Waupaca County, near Clintonville to Gustave and Marie (Ehlert) Wege. She died on March 18, 2019, at the age of 103. The family moved to the village of Pella in 1920 to own and operate a cheese factory. Moved to Norrie in the 5th grade to a bigger and better cheese factory. Graduated from Norrie Public School, Wittenberg High School class of 1933, and Marathon County Normal in Wausau in 1934. Then graduated with a two year degree in rural education from Central State Teachers College in Stevens Point. Taught rural schools in Marathon County for eight years. Spent one year in Milwaukee working for International Harvester making war supplies.
On October 7, 1944, Evelyn married Carl Jacobson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Birnamwood. Evelyn was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church (formerly First Lutheran Church) in Wittenberg after her marriage. She was an active member of the Ladies Aid (now Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America). Evelyn also taught Sunday School for many years, served on the church council and was secretary of the congregation. She did quilting at the church and Homme Home, was a member of the Just Us Girls homemakers club, the Elderon School PTA and the Elderon Hattitude Club. Evelyn worked as a teachers aid and substitue teacher in the Wittenberg School District and then was a dietary aid at Homme Home until her retirement. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Gustave and Marie husband, Carl; grandson, Nels Jacobson and siblings, Leona Genrich, Meta Krause and Ervin Wege.
Survivors include daughters, Arla (Bradley) Block and Jean (David Nelson) Jacobson; sons, Alan Jacobson, James (Jane Opper) Jacobson, Charles Jacobson, John (Lynn McGauly) Jacobson and Glenn (Karen Frederick) Jacobson; grandchildren, Nathan (Audrey Crapain), Jared, Mathew, Leah (Mike Centanne), Hannah (Paul Van den Huevel), Carly, Jacob, Jessica (Ivan Weilander), John and Angela (Justin Bembenek) and great-grandchildren, Nico and Mira Centanne, Romy Jacobson, Gates Bembenek and Quinn Weilander.
Per Evelyn’s request, a private family service will be held.
