Drive and Only Drive

Dear Reader,

My friend and I narrowly avoided a serious accident last week when he looked up to see a Mack truck bearing down on us. His car had drifted into the other lane. In a millisecond he turned the wheel and swerved our car back into our own lane avoiding what most likely would have been a fatal accident, at least for us.

This near death encounter was a teachable moment for us. Now when we drive, that’s all we do. There are some excellent public service announcements out there that remind us of the dangers of driving and how a little common sense and caution can keep us safer. The temptation to text or email—to do anything but concentrate on the road ahead—should be ignored. Why flirt with disaster for yourself and potentially others? It’s not necessary. Life is too short anyway. There’s no need to shorten it further.
