Johanna Cmelak, 82
Johanna Cmelak, of Antigo, died Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Rosalia Gardens under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. She was 82 years old. She was born on November 7, 1936, at Post Lake, a daughter of Paul and Mary (Drzeweicki) Walentowski. She married George Cmelak in 1964, in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death twelve days ago on March 23, 2019.
She was a graduate of Elcho High School and moved to Milwaukee where she worked as a teller at Capitol Bank.
She returned to Post Lake in 1965 where she served the town of Elcho as treasurer for many years.
Johanna and her husband owned and operated Shady Brook Campground at Post Lake from 1972 to 2004, where they made lifelong friends. After retirement they still held a seasonal spot at Shady Brook.
She was musically gifted and participated in Stunt Night in Elcho. Her hobbies included camping, fishing, sewing and crafting. She was a Wisconsin sports fan.
Survivors include nieces and nephews: Corky (Paul) Steckbauer, Anne (Dave) Wagner, Jody (Mark) Truskey, Tom (Patty) Clifford, Pat (Kristi) Clifford, Patricia Knuth, Mary (Jeff) Bruendenmuhl, Julie (Mike) Novak, Linda (Chuck) Goodrich, Jim Walentowski, Patrick Walentowski, Marcia (Dave) Lafferty, Paul Walentowski, Ed (Ann) Mas; many great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Clifford, and Sadie Panka; five brothers, Anton, Ollie, Harry, Robert and Patrick Walentowski.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 8, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Elcho with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass Monday at the church.
Johanna and George will be interred at the same time in Elcho Cemetery in the spring.
