Deirdre Daun (Cronkright) Johnson, 92, long time resident of Polar, Wisconsin, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019, at the home of her daughter, Virginia (Ed) Dyer, in Coleman, Wisconsin. She was surrounded by family as she finished her brave fight against the ravages of age, struggling to recover from a broken hip.
Born August 20, 1926, in Flint, Michigan, to Floyd Daniel and Mabel (Smith) Cronkright, Sr. She married Gustaf Walter Johnson March 17, 1946 in Pittsville, Wisconsin; he preceded her in death in November 2007. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and enjoyed being active in helping those in need in the community through her church’s Community Service Outreach. She was also active in disaster relief work throughout the country with organizations such as VOAD, ADRA, and Red Cross. Other areas of interest were in working with the Seventh Day Adventist summer youth camp for years as the girls’ director and leader of the craft projects for the Primary and Junior age group at the Camp Meetings. As a hobby she loved doing ceramic painting, sewing decorative things as well as being an excellent seamstress of clothing for herself and her family; she was a fantastic cook and baker. She was great with children and always ready to help where needed with family, friends and neighbors. There was nothing she wouldn’t do to help her children and grandchildren. She was loved dearly and will be greatly missed!
She is survived by two daughters, Virginia (Ed) Dyer, of Coleman, Wisconsin; Tari-Sue (Bob) Baker, of Alameda, California; and one son, Gregory (LaRee) Johnson, of Merrill, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, Daun Brock, Shari (David) Ermis, Heidi Dockham, Kirsten (Matt) Schult, Megan (Tyler) Barrett, Erica (Blake) Martin, and Taran Gillen; eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Besides her husband, and parents she is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marcia; a son, Richard; two sisters; and a brother.
A memorial service will be held at the Antigo Seventh Day Adventist Church on Friday, June 14, 2019 at 4:30 with Pastor Rick Binford officiating. Fellowship will follow the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Antigo Community Food Pantry and Adventist Community Services.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Unity Hospice and Strasser-Roller Funeral Home.
