Antigo Girls Tennis Team Traveled to Lakeland
FOR ANTIGO TIMES
The Antigo girl’s tennis team traveled to Lakeland Union High School recently for a conference match played in gorgeous weather. It was more smooth sailing for the varsity girls, as many of them took control with the first serve. Avery Nicholson, junior, was confident on the court with hard hits and fast serves at #1 singles. Ellie Kelly, senior, showed her stylistic technique at #2 singles; she used a variety of shots to keep her opponent guessing. Margo Kelly, sophomore, hustled on the court and took chances at the net for another win at #3 singles. Finally, Brechlyn Flannery, sophomore, continued her momentum at #4 singles with strong ground strokes and laser focus. #1 doubles team, Greta Parsons and Jenna Lenzner, juniors, battled hard in the first set and then hit a groove in the second set with aggressive net play and sharp alley shots. Seniors, Lily Nicholson and Julia Westen, took control at #2 doubles with positivity and deep lobs to keep their opponents away from the net. #3 doubles team, Ellie Preboski, junior, and Elli Stank, freshman, made use of the court with wide angled shots and fierce volleys. All in all, it was a strong showing for the varsity squad.

Holly Zimmerman and Callie Hubatch moved well as a team and hustled for a win. Another win was earned by Anna Evans and Claire Musolff; their positive attitudes shone bright as they kept points in play for a win. Olivia Fischer and Jami Nonnenmacher took their time with each play and emitted pure joy with every point won; the senior duo earned another win. MacKenzie Moore and Makayla Roberts had effective communication and passionate playing for yet another great JV win. Holly Johnson and Elena Bussiere gave it their all which, unfortunately, wasn’t quite enough to pull ahead. Sierra Oelke showed great growth with beautiful ground strokes for a strong singles win at JV. Logan Preul stayed consistent and took feedback to earn herself a win. Bailee VanderSanden started her pro-set behind but persevered and took chances that helped her come back for a long fought win. Hailey Warren played point for point and worked hard for JV win. Antigo Finishes Match with Pacelli
Monday September 23rd, Antigo finished a match with Pacelli that was started on August 27. Back in August, all three doubles teams shut out their opponents before the rain put the tennis match on hold for a few weeks. Julia Westen and Jenna Lenzner had an easy and consistent control on their #1 doubles court. Greta Parsons and Ellie Preboski ruled their court with power and aggressive net play at #2 doubles. Lily Nicholson and Elli Stank were eager and energetic at #3 doubles for the win. Tonight, Pacelli’s four singles players traveled back over to Antigo to finish our only remaining conference match of the season before the conference tournament that was held Saturday September 28th. Ellie Kelly and Margo Kelly both cruised through the rest of their matches at #2 and #3 singles. Ellie plays with a subtle power that catches her opponent off guard, and Margo maneuvers her court with grace that is beautiful to watch. Avery Nicholson wasn’t far behind at #1 singles. Her hard hits and speed made her hard to overpower. Brechlyn Flannery tried to pick up where she left off at #4 singles. Her opponent tried to make a sneaky comeback, bringing the second set to a tied 6-6 score. Brechlyn pushed back hard under pressure with powerful serves and an endless tenacity that can’t be denied. Antigo, happily, finished with a 7-0 over Pacelli.
